The Ed. L Jenkins Papers documents the political career of Congressman Ed Jenkins who represented Georgia's Ninth District (Northwest Georgia) from 1977 to 1992. Prior to being elected to the House of Representatives, Jenkins worked as a trial lawyer in Jasper, Georgia. During his tenure in the House of Representatives, Jenkins served on several committees including: the Ways and Means Committee where he was involved with the Trade Subcommittee, the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, the Budget Committee, the Steering and Policy Committee, and the House Select Committee to Investigate Covert Arms Transactions during the Iran-Contra Hearings. Jenkins was an advocate of the textile industry in Georgia. He served on both the Textile and Congressional Rural Caucus to represent the needs of the industry and his constituents. Legislation of particular interest in this collection includes the Textile and Apparel Trade Enforcement Act of 1985, the Caribbean Basin Initiative, the Tax Reform Act of 1986, and Ronald Reagan's Balanced-Budget Amendment. Other topics of interest in this collection includes files on the Chattahoochee National Forest Preservation, lake and water resources, agriculture, textiles, domestic trade, taxation, and the Iran-Contra Hearings.

Includes case files (typically opinions, briefs, judicial memoranda, reports, administrative forms and correspondence), dockets, bench books, case indexes, correspondence, printed opinions, committee files, charge books and notes, newsclippings, photographs, and maps. Of note are Judge Morgan's files relating to highly publicized cases, such as Wallace Butts v. This collection includes clippings, correspondence, genealogical files, articles, notes, interviews, transcripts, photographs, and writings, gathered by Joan Titus, relating to Lillian Smith's life and legacy. The correspondence relates to Laural Falls Camp, South Today, Lillian Smith's publications and events, and letters received by Joan Titus regarding Smith. There are several folders of audience reaction cards from screenings of Miss Smith of Georgia from 1964 and 1966. Also included in this collection are interviews conducted by Joan Titus in March 1962 with Atlanta civic and political leaders, including Ivan Allan, William Hartsfield, Martin Luther King, Jr., Lorimer Douglas Milton, and Reverend Williams Holmes Borders, regarding African American business leaders. Also in March 1962, Titus interviewed Dr. Robert Coles, a child psychiatrist, about the effect of school desegregation on children. Excerpts of the Coles interview were used in Time-Life's radio program "The Children Should be Heard".

The collection consists of the papers of Rodney M. Cook from 1951 to 1978. The political series (1951-1978) contains papers relating to Cook's campaigns for public office including the Atlanta Board of Aldermen (1961, 1965), Atlanta Mayor (1969), Georgia Legislature (1965-1970), Congress (1972), and Georgia Governor (1978). The collection consists of eleven commercially-released interviews of Dean Rusk conducted in 1987 by Edwin Newman for the Southern Center for International Studies and one copy of The Seventh Annual Report of the Secretaries of State, 1989: "American Foreign Policy: The Challenges, The Opportunities, The Dangers." In the interviews, Rusk discusses growing up in Georgia, his experiences in the State Department, and his views on the war in Vietnam, the Nuclear Age, and U.S.-Soviet relations throughout the Cold War. The Seventh Annual Report of the Secretaries of State includes a roundtable discussion by former U.S. Secretaries of State on the subjects of East Germany, the Cold War, the Soviet Union under Mikhail Gorbachev, Nuclear Proliferation, and the Tiananmen Square incident in China.

The Georgia Environmental Oral History Project was started in 2013 via a partnership between the Russell Library and Betsy Bean. The project documents the forces that have shaped and are currently shaping the Georgia landscape, including such topics as environmental activism (with a focus on grassroots activism), legislation related to environmental issues, the environmental history of the Georgia coast, the interplay between conservation, industry, and tourism, the politics of "sustainability," and the relationship between environmental issues and public safety. Early interviews focus on Brunswick and Glynn County including numerous Superfund sites, the development issues surrounding St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island, and the challenges of protecting coastal marshlands.

The audio reels primarily document the daily activities on the floor of the House during regular and special sessions from 1975 to 1998.
